How can you tell that this particular watch was produced in this month of this year?

You can date all Seiko watches (from the early 1960s onwards) to the month and year of production from the serial number on the back (the 6-digit string). The first digit is for the year of the decade, the second is for the month. So you need to work out which decade, which is normally pretty easy from the style of the watch or from finding out when the watch movement was in production.
